Our department offers a robust program focused on treating and disposing of waste on-site. This initiative primarily addresses household wastewater management using both surface and subsurface disposal methods. Key aspects like location selection, system design, operational procedures, and ecological effects are evaluated, with septic system and soil data integrated into an educational series.
Course details for North Carolina are available in the Outreach section's training area. Responding to significant demand for practical instruction, the department—working alongside university partners, regulatory bodies, technical support organizations, and industry collaborators—has established multiple training centers across North Carolina. The Raleigh-based Soil and Water Environmental Technology Center specializes in land-applied waste treatment solutions. Additional training sites operate in Plymouth, Boliva, Fletcher, and Greensboro.
