The M.A. in English program provides four specialized tracks reflecting key areas of our field: Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, and Film Studies. These concentrations, while united in their focus on research and analytical skills, present varied approaches to examining culture and language across different contexts. The film studies specialization develops expertise in writing, research methods, critical analysis, and theoretical frameworks. This track requires just two literature courses within the MA program, with the remaining curriculum dedicated to film and media studies. Students complete their degree with a capstone project on a film-related topic selected in collaboration with a faculty advisor. Previous capstone projects have ranged from scholarly papers to creative works like documentaries and video essays.
