This advanced degree builds upon master's-level studies, requiring rigorous coursework, comprehensive written and oral qualifying exams, extensive research, a scholarly dissertation, and a final oral presentation defending the findings. North Carolina State University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in Raleigh stands as the most extensive in the state and ranks among the nation's largest and most distinguished programs. The department provides undergraduate (BS), graduate (MS), and doctoral (PhD) degrees in both Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Aerospace Engineering (AE), along with combined accelerated BS/MS options for both disciplines.
Our research focuses on developing sustainable energy solutions, including wind and marine energy capture, while enhancing the efficiency of current energy systems like solar power and combustion technologies.
