The Computing and Systems program is an interdisciplinary initiative where faculty tackle diverse challenges across civil and environmental engineering. We provide a comprehensive selection of graduate and undergraduate courses covering topics like civil engineering systems, computational techniques, numerical analysis, high-performance computing, evolutionary algorithms, stochastic modeling, complex adaptive systems, IT modeling, and inverse modeling. Alumni establish careers in conventional firms, government institutions, research labs, academic settings, and leading corporations including SAS, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, GE, and Intel.

Qualification Requirements

The minimum requirements for admission to the graduate degree programs in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering are as follows:

Previous Degree: A bachelor's degree from an EAC-ABET accredited college or university in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
GPA: An overall GPA of at least 3.0.

GRE Scores: Not required.
TOEFL/IELTS Scores: All international applicants are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores taken within two years of the date of anticipated admission.
TOEFL iBT must have a minimum of 18 on each section of the test AND with a minimum total of 80.
The IELTS requires a minimum score of 6.5 in each section.
Complete applications contain the following items:

Transcripts: Upload unofficial transcripts (English version only) with the online application. Original, official transcripts should not be sent until an offer of admission is made from the Graduate School.
Official TOEFL, IELTS Scores: TOEFL scores must be sent electronically from ETS to Institution code 5496. IELTS score sheets should be sent directly to the Graduate School. Uploading copies of test reports with your online application safeguards against delays in reporting by the testing agencies. See Admission Requirements for details on scores.
Statement of Purpose (a statement about your academic career, research, qualifications, and career goals): Limited to 500 words and must be submitted with your online application.
Resume
Three letters of recommendation: Three strong recommendations from persons able to comment on the applicant's qualifications for graduate study. List the name and email address for each reference on your application. References will be notified by email with a link to respond. Paper recommendations will not be accepted. Toefl paper-based test requires a score of 550 or higher (with scores of 50 on at least two of the three sections and no section score below 45).
