In our increasingly interconnected world, individuals are bound together by shared opportunities and obstacles. Both personally and collectively, we actively mold our global reality while being profoundly affected by events occurring across distant regions. NC State University's International Studies (IS) program offers an interdisciplinary approach, equipping students to thrive in a world of complex global connections and divisions. The curriculum allows students to specialize in various regions such as Africa, Europe, Latin America, East/Southeast Asia, South Asia/Middle East, or focus on International Economy/Environment, International Relations, or International Cultural Studies. Each concentration features courses from multiple academic disciplines. The program requires all majors to complete three core courses, achieve foreign language proficiency, and participate in study abroad experiences. Through this comprehensive approach, IS students develop skills to understand cultural differences, global economic forces, and evolving geopolitical landscapes. The Bachelor of Arts degree requires 33 credit hours, comprising three IS core courses, advanced language study, five concentration-specific classes, and six elective credits. A minimum six-credit study abroad component is mandatory. Dual majors may apply three internationally-focused courses from their second major toward IS requirements, while minors can transfer one relevant course.
