European Studies provides students with a deep exploration of Europe's rich heritage and traditions. The curriculum encompasses literature, art, history, and geography, along with political and economic systems. Multiple academic units collaborate to deliver this program, including Anthropology, Architecture, Art, Drama, Economics, English, Geography, History, History of Science, International and Area Studies, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, and Modern Languages, Literature and Linguistics. As the most comprehensive option within the International Studies program, it enables students to combine various academic passions into one focused discipline. The program covers Western, Central, and Mediterranean Europe from roughly 1500 onward. Graduates will develop proficiency in at least one non-English European language and the ability to comprehend texts in that language. Students should select their language focus and commence specialized coursework as early as their first year.
