You'll master teaching methodologies, develop expertise in language acquisition, literacy development, and linguistic theory, while gaining hands-on experience through teaching placements in NYC schools - opening doors to diverse career opportunities. The TESOL MA program blends foundational coursework with specialized electives, practical fieldwork, and supervised teaching. Your studies will cover instructional approaches, ESL classroom dynamics, language acquisition research, linguistic principles, English grammar, cross-cultural education, special needs instruction, urban adolescent education, and a capstone project.
The program includes two semesters of supervised ESL teaching at both elementary and secondary levels in NYC schools, accompanied by a teaching seminar. You'll receive mentorship from experienced educators and NYU professors who will provide constructive feedback to help hone your teaching skills.
