The World/Foreign Languages Education specialization within the Secondary Education program focuses on developing both language proficiency and effective teaching methodologies. This concentration highlights how language learning fosters cultural awareness, broadening students' perspectives beyond their own cultural framework. Participants in this program develop enhanced insights into linguistic and cultural systems. While many alumni teach at the secondary level, there's growing demand for foreign language instructors in elementary schools, particularly for Spanish. To address this, the specialization provides K-12 certification, preparing educators for diverse classroom environments. Certification options include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish. Students can pursue either certification alone or combine it with a master's degree through this graduate program. Initial enrollment places all candidates in the master's track, with the option to exit after meeting certification requirements or continue for the additional credits needed for both credentials. The program mandates at least 28 credits for certification and 31 credits for the dual certification/master's degree path.
