Frequently, students' literacy abilities and second language learning requirements are interconnected, making it difficult for educators to identify whether reading difficulties, language barriers, or both are present. Lewis University stands out as the sole Chicagoland institution providing combined graduate-level endorsements for both Reading Teacher and English as a Second Language (ESL) qualifications.
Throughout their studies, participants will gain expertise in instructing diverse cultural and linguistic groups, implementing effective comprehension strategies, and mastering techniques for teaching English to non-native speakers. After completing the program, graduates can enhance their current teaching credentials with these specialized endorsements. These Reading Teacher and ESL qualifications are accessible to Illinois educators holding licenses in Elementary, Early Childhood, Special Education, or Secondary Education. The endorsements cover teaching authorization from Pre-K through 12th grade.
