For over 135 years, NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) has cultivated exceptional global leaders. The MA in International Relations (MAIR) upholds this legacy by equipping students with comprehensive training in international affairs through an academically rigorous program. Our graduate curriculum examines International Relations through multiple disciplinary lenses and methodological approaches. By collaborating with faculty across GSAS, as well as experts from the Law School, Stern School of Business, and Wagner School of Public Service, MAIR students enjoy diverse academic pathways to tailor their educational and professional goals. Additionally, the Program facilitates engaging discussions by hosting events featuring scholars, professionals, and students to foster intellectual exchange within the discipline.
Each semester, the program will publish a selection of approved Asian Studies elective courses. With program director approval, students may count other NYU courses toward their electives. Some non-IR courses may need instructor consent. Language proficiency requirements include demonstrating advanced competency in an Asian language (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) through examination, completing a third-year language course with a B or better, or having completed primary/secondary education in an Asian language medium.
