Located in the heart of America's art capital, the MA Program in the History of Art and Archaeology at the Institute of Fine Arts caters to students passionate about exploring visual arts' cultural and societal significance through hands-on object analysis, historical research, and critical evaluation. This comprehensive program offers a rich educational journey with diverse intellectual exploration opportunities, mentorship from renowned scholars, and unparalleled access to New York's museums, curators, conservators, archaeological sites, and NYU's international network. The Institute's MA in the History of Art and Archaeology serves students with a strong interest in visual arts who seek an advanced degree without pursuing a lengthy doctoral program. This MA proves valuable for careers in museums, galleries, auction houses, cultural institutions, arts foundations, archaeological preservation, art conservation, or future doctoral studies in art history or archaeology. The program spans two years of full-time study or three years part-time for working professionals. Part-time students collaborate with the Director of Masters Studies to design a customized plan, typically taking two courses per semester for the first two years and one course per semester in the final year.
