The Master of Arts in Classics & Archaeology is ideal for students aiming to advance to PhD programs in Archaeology, Ancient History, Art History, or Classics, transition into related humanities disciplines, or enter professions where expertise in classical and Near Eastern antiquity is beneficial, including museums, heritage conservation, historic preservation, and tourism. This program provides comprehensive training in ancient Greek and Latin, archaeological techniques, and the analysis of ancient Mediterranean artifacts, equipping graduates to excel in top-tier PhD programs in classics and classical archaeology worldwide. It also prepares students for doctoral studies in related areas such as art history, ancient history, and religious studies.
Admission to the program requires completion of four semesters each of ancient Greek and Latin.
Furthermore, this program offers a pathway for students enrolled in the new BA in Classics & Archaeology to progress into the BA/MA combined program during their fifth year.
The MA in Classical Studies curriculum equips students to teach Latin or Greek language, literature, and culture at the secondary level or to pursue doctoral studies. Participants develop a broad and profound understanding of antiquity, laying the groundwork for scholarly research and careers in academia or other humanities-focused professions.

Degree requirements: The MA in Classical Studies mandates completion of at least eight courses (32 credits). Students generally specialize in either Latin or Greek, with one course in Greek or Roman art/archaeology recommended. Those wishing to take more than two courses from affiliated departments must obtain permission from the graduate studies director.
