This program suits improvisation and theater practitioners, performing artists, teachers, therapists, and professionals in medical, healthcare, and special education fields. You'll join classmates from varied cultural and educational backgrounds to learn from and train with renowned creative arts therapy experts. Learn to recognize and explain drama therapy and psychological theories, then implement these approaches in client care. Cultivate your professional identity as both a drama therapist and future licensed mental health provider. Acquire hands-on experience through clinical placements at hospitals, shelters, addiction treatment centers, correctional facilities, and specialized programs serving homeless populations, seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, and those with terminal illnesses, among others. Completing the 50-credit program fulfills academic prerequisites for New York State's Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) credential, enabling graduates to practice drama therapy statewide after licensure.
