Gain the skills to teach students across all learning levels by earning your New York State initial teaching certification for grades 1-6 in both general and special education. Through hands-on field experiences, student teaching placements, and coursework that blends educational theory with practice, you'll develop the ability to collaborate effectively and provide high-quality instruction in diverse classroom settings. Learn techniques for modifying curriculum, classroom setups, and evaluation methods to meet students' varying cognitive, emotional, and behavioral requirements. Build expertise in teaching fundamentals and key academic areas including math, language arts, and social studies. Discover methods for supporting students with emotional/behavioral challenges, including those with significant or multiple disabilities.
Full-time students can complete this program in 2 years (4 semesters).
