The Master of Education Special Emphasis program enables educators and professionals aiming to influence California's youth, families, and communities to tailor their studies to align with specific interests or career objectives. This MEd Special Emphasis curriculum is carefully crafted to address the needs of California's varied student population, with a focus on language acquisition, multicultural perspectives, and learner-centered teaching methods. For added convenience, the program is offered at several campus sites. Students pursuing the MEd in Special Emphasis can design their own academic path by selecting relevant graduate courses university-wide to explore their chosen subjects more thoroughly. The degree concludes with a capstone project or thesis designed to enhance teaching and leadership skills. The University of La Verne prioritizes flexibility for working educators in the MEd Special Emphasis program by offering classes during late afternoons, evenings, and weekends. This 33-unit program can be completed in a minimum of two years or extended up to five years.

Qualification Requirements

2. Official transcripts from all institutions attended. A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a preferred GPA of 2.75 or above in undergraduate work and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in any graduate work.

3. A Statement of purpose. Write a statement of purpose addressing the following points: your reasons for entering the teaching profession, any personal or professional experiences and/or qualifications related to your intended field of study, and your perspectives on the relevance and role of cultural competence in teaching. Your statement should be approximately 500-words in length and typewritten.

4. One letter of recommendation from an individual qualified to and the potential to be a competent educator. Letter must be from an individual who can knowledgeably comment on applicant's academic skills, employment/volunteer experience, leadership potential, and professional abilities.
