The NYU College of Dentistry provides an Advanced Standing pathway into its DDS program for internationally trained dentists aiming to practice in the U.S. Accepted students join an intensive 28-month, CODA-accredited program that culminates in earning a DDS degree, fulfilling the educational prerequisites for dental licensure.
The four-year Doctor of Dental Surgery program, accredited by CODA, combines rigorous academic coursework with hands-on clinical training. This structured curriculum progresses from fundamental concepts to practical patient care, preparing graduates for licensure and professional practice.
Beginning with foundational sciences and pre-clinical lab work, the carefully designed curriculum helps students integrate knowledge in ways that mirror real-world dental practice. This prepares them for the Integrated National Board Dental Examination, a mandatory requirement for NYU Dentistry graduation.
Starting in their first year (D1), students gain patient care experience through observation in general and specialty clinics. As they advance, their clinical responsibilities grow progressively, reaching full primary care provider status by their fourth year (D4).
Continuous evaluation occurs throughout the program, with students tracking their development through self-reflection, peer reviews, and comprehensive assessments. This culminates in a final competency evaluation certifying their readiness for graduation and professional practice.
