The metropolitan studies interdisciplinary program, based in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis (SCA), explores urban environments in connection with surrounding rural and suburban areas that shape their identity. Using New York City as their primary research site, students analyze how social systems and policy approaches tackle population issues and infrastructure challenges through coursework, internships, and research projects. Working alongside faculty and professionals engaged with government, community organizations, and nonprofits, students gain analytical insights into how urban, suburban, and rural regions develop and the significant challenges they face in relation to one another.
An accelerated dual-degree option (B.A./M.P.A. or B.A./M.U.P.) is available through NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Additional details can be found in the preprofessional, accelerated, and specialized programs section of this Bulletin.
