Sociologists study how belonging to various groups and engaging with social frameworks and institutions influences individuals' everyday experiences. The Department of Sociology and Criminology educates undergraduates to assess diverse societal concerns, spanning family dynamics, gender relations, racial issues, economic class, legal systems, public policies, criminal behavior, healthcare, and environmental factors. Students majoring in sociology develop expertise in technical and analytical methods, critical reasoning skills, and international viewpoints essential for thriving in our fast-changing world, equipping them for careers across multiple fields such as teaching, healthcare, corporate sectors, legal practice, city development, policy-making, and community support services.
Have earned the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.  If you have already completed secondary school, you need to submit both academic transcripts and proof of graduation with your application documents. 
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000, both overall and at the University at Buffalo
