The Mathematics Department's undergraduate program provides an extensive selection of courses covering both theoretical and practical mathematics. Professors belong to the renowned Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, a premier research hub known for blending mathematical principles with real-world applications.
Beyond the standard mathematics major, students can pursue combined degrees in mathematics paired with (1) computer science, (2) data science, (3) economics, or (4) engineering. These programs typically result in a BA degree after four years, except for the engineering track, which awards dual BS degrees from the College of Arts and Science and NYU Tandon School of Engineering over five years. Ambitious students can opt for an accelerated five-year BA/MS in mathematics through the Graduate School of Arts and Science, or an MA in mathematics education via Steinhardt. The department also offers independent study opportunities for specialized academic pursuits.
