Pursue a bachelor's or associate in applied science (AAS) degree in Food Studies, designed for adults, transfer students, and nontraditional undergraduates. Investigate the relationships between food, culture, policy, and the environment while launching or progressing in food-related careers. Our experienced faculty guide you through topics from food systems and media to global food security and public health challenges such as obesity and malnutrition.
New York City serves as your dynamic learning environment, offering unmatched access to modern food challenges. Home to one of America's largest wholesale food markets and numerous NGOs focused on food, health, and sustainability, the city provides rich opportunities. Gain practical experience through internships, apprenticeships, and hands-on learning that bridges classroom theory with real-world applications. The program partners with organizations including GrowNYC, Edible magazine, the Street Vendor Project, Family Cook Productions, the Restaurant Opportunities Center, and the James Beard Foundation.
A Food Studies degree equips you for diverse food sector roles, from policy research and sustainable agriculture to urban policy management, food marketing, media relations, NGO administration, culinary journalism, and food entrepreneurship. AAS graduates can continue their education by pursuing a BA or BS in Food Studies or related fields at The New School.
