New Mexico grapples with significant issues regarding water resource availability, conservation, quality, governance, and oversight. Addressing these concerns will profoundly influence the local economy, ecological health, and residents' wellbeing across the state. There's an urgent demand to educate future water specialists, including scientists, instructors, and policymakers, to tackle these problems both within and beyond New Mexico's borders. To address this need, New Mexico State University has established a cross-disciplinary Water Science & Management (WSM) program, involving collaboration between these departments: Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business, Animal and Range Science, Civil Engineering, Geography, and Plant and Environmental Sciences. The WSM graduate programs (master's and PhD) aim to equip students with the expertise to solve water-related challenges at various scales while preparing skilled professionals to handle the pressing water resource demands outlined earlier.
