New Mexico confronts significant issues regarding water resource availability, enhancement, standards, oversight, and governance. Addressing these concerns will profoundly influence the local economy, ecological health, and residents' well-being across the state. There's a pressing demand to educate future experts in water resource studies, instruction, and leadership to tackle these problems, both within and beyond New Mexico's borders. To address these requirements, New Mexico State University has established a cross-disciplinary Water Science & Management (WSM) initiative, involving contributions from the departments of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business, Animal and Range Science, Civil Engineering, Geography, and Plant and Environmental Sciences. The WSM master's and Ph.D. programs aim to deliver advanced training for resolving water-related challenges at state, national, and global levels while preparing future water specialists to overcome the aforementioned obstacles.
