The English Department offers focused undergraduate programs in Creative Writing, Literature, and Rhetoric. Our graduate offerings include an MA in English with various specialization options, a PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication, and a newly launched online MA in Technical and Professional Communication. Our distinguished faculty create a welcoming and intellectually vibrant atmosphere, featuring small class sizes that promote engaged learning for all students. Beyond serving approximately 100 English majors and over 50 graduate students, we support the entire university community through our General Education Writing Program. The department houses both the University Writing Center, offering personalized writing assistance in-person and online, and the Creative Research Center. Through La Sociedad para las Artes, we host a renowned literary series that showcases accomplished regional, national, and international authors alongside our MFA candidates. Additionally, we edit Puerto del Sol, a nationally recognized literary journal that showcases groundbreaking poetry, fiction, drama, criticism, and visual art from both emerging and established creators.
