As an Architecture school embedded in a research-focused university, we serve as a hub for groundbreaking ideas. Our research-driven faculty enables students to partner on emerging fields spanning nanotechnology to augmented and virtual reality, while pushing boundaries in robotics and digital fabrication. Our curriculum aligns with professional accreditation standards. The Hillier College's NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) at NJIT is a post-baccalaureate professional program designed for candidates holding a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or graduate degree in non-architecture disciplines who seek professional architectural licensure. The streamlined 90-credit program accommodates these career-changers.
Students in the Professional M.Arch. program progress through a core curriculum encompassing architectural history, integrated building systems, and digital design tools, which serve as foundational prerequisites for the initial four design studios. Following this required sequence, students can choose from specialized design studios and electives to tailor their education toward concentrations like urban design, sustainability, or computational design.
Qualified applicants with pre-professional architecture degrees or related field experience may qualify for an accelerated track through advanced placement. Both full-time and part-time study options exist. Beyond completing their personalized study plan (determined by transcript and portfolio evaluation), all students must fulfill NAAB's minimum credit requirements, typically exceeding 168 combined undergraduate/graduate credits and 30 graduate-level credits.
