The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education provides graduate programs that enhance skills in content-specific teaching methods across elementary, secondary, and special education levels, enabling educators to evaluate and refine their instructional approaches. Students can pursue Master of Science or Educational Specialist degrees in elementary, secondary, or special education. Admission to all CISE Master's and Specialist programs mandates a Class A teaching license in the relevant discipline (excluding Special Education certification and non-certified Emotional/Behavioral Disorder pathways). The secondary education Master of Science program offers both in-person and online completion options. For those with non-education bachelor's degrees, the Master of Arts in Teaching programs for Middle Level and Secondary education provide pathways to initial teaching certification. The PhD in Curriculum and Instruction develops professionals for roles as teacher educators, researchers, and leaders in elementary, secondary, special education, and other teaching/learning specializations.
