The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education provides graduate programs that enhance skills in content-specific teaching methods across elementary, secondary, and special education levels, enabling educators to critically evaluate and refine their instructional approaches. Students can pursue Master of Science or Educational Specialist degrees in elementary, secondary, or special education fields. Admission to all CISE Master's and Specialist programs mandates possession of a Class A teaching license in the relevant discipline (excluding Special Education certification and non-certified Emotional/Behavioral Disorder pathways). While the Master of Science in secondary education offers both on-campus and online completion options, the Master of Arts in Teaching programs for Middle Level and Secondary education cater to career-changers with non-education bachelor's degrees seeking initial teaching certification. The PhD in Curriculum and Instruction develops future faculty members, researchers, and educational leaders specializing in elementary, secondary, special education, and broader teaching/learning scholarship.
