In your role as a structural engineer, you will be tasked with evaluating and planning structures to guarantee their safe functionality. These structures need to bear their own loads and withstand dynamic environmental forces like hurricanes, earthquakes, heavy snowstorms, and flooding. Structural engineers contribute to a wide array of projects, including stadiums, arenas, skyscrapers, offshore oil installations, space stations, amusement park attractions, bridges, office complexes, and residential buildings. You will acquire and apply expertise in the characteristics and performance of materials such as steel, concrete, aluminum, wood, plastics, and innovative or specialized substances. To ensure adherence to design specifications, you will frequently visit construction sites to oversee and confirm the work being done.
