The Chemistry Department provides two undergraduate degree options: the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), both requiring 124 credit hours for completion. These programs establish a strong academic base for pursuing graduate studies, teaching careers, medical fields, pharmaceutical professions, dentistry, or various industry roles.
The B.S. program features three specialized tracks: the American Chemical Society (ACS) track, Pre-Medical track, and Pre-Pharmacy track. The ACS track equips students for industrial careers or advanced graduate education. Since 1941, the American Chemical Society has consistently accredited the department and its curriculum, validating degrees earned through the ACS-certified B.S. program. The Pre-Medical track helps students fulfill medical school requirements, blending essential biology coursework with specialized chemistry classes that prepare students for the demands of medical, dental, or other professional programs. This track aligns with the University of Mississippi Medical Center's (UMMC) prerequisites. The Pre-Pharmacy track satisfies admission requirements for the University of Mississippi's School of Pharmacy, with coursework that generally matches other pharmacy programs' expectations. Students considering alternative pharmacy schools should discuss their plans with their academic advisor.
