The Packaging Science bachelor's program, administered by the Department of Nutrition, Food Science and Packaging, stands among the few specialized programs in the United States offering comprehensive training in this interdisciplinary discipline. From pharmaceuticals and personal care items to home appliances, virtually all manufactured goods rely on packaging for product protection and marketing. This structured BS program equips students with specialized packaging competencies for technical applications through concentrated study in predetermined packaging specialties. The curriculum prioritizes industry-relevant scientific and methodological education, while incorporating diverse elements of engineering, visual communication design, project coordination, marketing, and materials science. Foundational coursework in microbiology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and statistical analysis provides essential preparation for the major.
