The Biological Engineering (BE) program equips students for careers applying engineering principles to biological systems. It combines a strong foundation in traditional engineering with coursework in chemistry, biochemistry, and biological sciences. Through program electives, students can specialize in biomedical engineering, environmental engineering, precision agriculture, or premedical studies. Many BE graduates continue their education in professional or graduate schools after completing their studies at Mississippi State. Over the last decade, graduates have pursued the following paths: Medical School (25%), Engineering Graduate School (biomedical or environmental) (35%), Employment in Environmental, Biomedical, Agricultural, and other Engineering fields (30%), and other graduate programs such as MBA, dental, veterinary, or law school (10%).
The majority of positions for B.S. graduates in Biological Engineering are within the environmental sector. We recommend that students pursuing biomedical engineering consider graduate school to enhance their competitiveness in the job market.
Applicants must have completion of Diploma from secondary school or secondary leaving examination.
