The Master of Arts in African American and African Studies (AAAS) is an interdisciplinary graduate program focused on in-depth examination of Black experiences globally. Our AAAS program equips students to drive meaningful change within communities and organizations working to improve conditions for Black populations worldwide. This professional master's curriculum develops leaders for careers in cultural work, media, education, social entrepreneurship, and community development. Graduate students specialize in one of three concentrations: Black Cultural Studies, Black Girlhood Studies, or Black Ecological Futures. The program welcomes applicants with undergraduate degrees in any discipline and actively supports students pursuing combined degree options. As a fundamentally interdisciplinary field, Black Studies incorporates diverse methodologies and subject areas across its scholarly investigations.
