The Bachelor of Science in Education with an Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA) Integrated Science specialization equips graduates to teach across core science subjects (biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics) in grades 7-12, while allowing focus on one specific discipline. Students learn cutting-edge instructional techniques through science/math coursework, diverse classroom experiences, ELL methodology training, STEM education electives, and hands-on scientific research. The curriculum includes intensive study in a chosen science field alongside foundational coursework in other scientific domains, preparing graduates to teach any secondary-level science class. Many students pair this teaching certification with an Arts and Science degree, while others may advance to administrative positions through further education.
Most science education students begin at Miami University with substantial AP credits, providing greater scheduling flexibility. Current program requirements allow completion within four years, and we anticipate no significant challenges for students maintaining this timeline.
