Students who fulfill all undergraduate requirements will earn a Bachelor of Science degree with an education major. This program demands at least 120 semester credit hours to complete.
The curriculum focuses on both the professional aspirations and intellectual pursuits of aspiring educators. Throughout the program, students have numerous opportunities to select courses aligned with their personal interests and teaching career objectives. This degree aims to launch new teachers on a continuous journey of self-directed professional growth.
The final three semesters follow a structured block format that must be completed consecutively. Block A marks the start of the professional development series, requiring formal admission to the Teacher Education program. Maintaining satisfactory academic standing is necessary to progress to Blocks B and C.
As the initial phase, Block A includes some courses with mandatory fieldwork components, along with two specialization courses. Block B, the intermediate stage, combines two days of coursework with two days of classroom experience at partner schools, supplemented by regular seminars. The culminating Block C semester involves 14 weeks of full-time student teaching plus weekly seminars, with state regulations requiring participation in an intensive school-opening field experience during either Block B or C.
