The Urban and Regional Planning program offers a comprehensive approach to understanding cities and towns, focusing on fostering smarter, more sustainable growth. Through this major, students gain skills to assess urban environments, examine social and environmental challenges, and implement planning strategies via teamwork. The curriculum equips graduates with both general expertise and specific competencies for roles in government, consulting, and development sectors. You'll develop abilities to evaluate urban settings, study societal and ecological issues, and utilize planning methods while partnering with organizations and builders. This interdisciplinary field, led by the Geography Department, incorporates coursework from architecture, economics/business, political science, sociology, statistics, and sustainability studies. Planning professionals often serve in municipal or county governments, assisting communities in shaping their futures according to strategic plans. They collaborate with leaders and residents to establish objectives, analyze current situations, study effective approaches, and create innovative solutions. These specialists also formulate and enforce policies that promote efficient, fair, and environmentally responsible development. Alumni from our program contribute meaningfully to communities throughout the nation and internationally.
