Bringing together MIT's worldwide research capabilities with the benefits of a welcoming, collaborative department, the Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences graduate program equips students with essential research and communication abilities needed to thrive as independent researchers. Most students complete their degree within five years, dedicating the initial two years to coursework and research projects, leading to a General Examination that must be passed before the start of the third year.
To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor’s degree is awarded before they enroll at MIT.
