The interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Transportation offers a streamlined pathway for students currently pursuing the MST degree or similar transportation-focused master's programs at MIT or other institutions. This cross-departmental approach enables scholars to craft personalized study plans that transcend traditional academic boundaries. Oversight falls to the Transportation Education Committee (TEC), comprising faculty members who handle admissions, set academic standards, and supervise both comprehensive examinations and thesis defenses.
To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor’s degree is awarded before they enroll at MIT.
The minimum score required for the IELTS is 7.5 and the minimum score for TOEFL is 100 (iBT) 600 (PBT).
