The Studio and Humanistic Studies major is thoughtfully designed to establish a conceptual and critical foundation for exploring art and design. This interdisciplinary program seamlessly blends rigorous academic coursework with studio practice, shaping artists who will engage with culture as both makers and intellectuals.
Guided by distinguished scholar-teachers, students receive an exceptional liberal arts education while developing expertise in fields like philosophy, ethics, social sciences, or political history - all while advancing their artistic practice through a studio concentration.
Within four years, students fulfill requirements for both a B.F.A. in their chosen studio discipline and a demanding liberal arts major in Humanistic Studies, enabling them to commence graduate studies a full year sooner than traditional 5-year B.A./B.F.A. programs.
Elective courses allow for customization of the major, empowering students to cultivate complementary knowledge that enriches their artistic practice.
Illustration students might emphasize creative writing, while painters could delve into philosophy. Photography concentrators may choose to explore social and political history through their liberal arts curriculum. The potential combinations are nearly limitless.
