The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) is an advanced degree concentrating on immersive artistic practice across several visual arts disciplines, including 3D Media & Materials Studies, Graphic Design, Painting & Drawing, and Photography & Print Media. Unlike some programs, the B.F.A. doesn't require a portfolio submission for freshman admission. Those pursuing this degree should meet with the Art Department's Chief Advisor either before or in their initial semester at ODU. Foundation-level studio art courses should be started during the student's first academic year.
The university offers accelerated bachelor's-to-master's pathways in art history, visual studies, and fine arts, along with the MA in humanities, allowing high-achieving students to apply up to 12 graduate credits toward both degrees. A total of 150 credits are required (120 for the undergraduate portion and 30 for graduate studies). More details about these linked programs can be found in the Humanities section of the Catalog.
