The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program (Psy.D.) at LIU Post prepares future practitioners specializing in serving marginalized communities. Alongside a challenging core curriculum, Psy.D. candidates select two specialized tracks from four options: Severe Mental Health Conditions, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Family Crisis Intervention. Our distinguished faculty delivers comprehensive training in both cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches, equipping graduates with versatile skills to navigate evolving professional landscapes.
Following the initial year, students combine academic studies with hands-on experience through externships at accredited healthcare facilities. During their second year, trainees gain experience at the LIU Post Psychological Services Center (PSC), providing affordable mental health care to local residents. Advanced students complete intensive externships across 50+ metropolitan training sites, spanning hospital, outpatient, and community mental health settings.
Third-year candidates demonstrate clinical proficiency through case presentations evaluated by expert panels. The fifth year involves a full-time clinical internship. As a capstone requirement, students develop original research projects, completing dissertations under faculty supervision - a process initiated in their second year. This 115-credit program integrates clinical practice throughout the curriculum.
