The Department views its primary mission as public theology, meaning our efforts stem from and interact with the complexities of modern existence. Religious studies incorporate multiple disciplines and diverse methodologies. We strive to bridge concepts from various faith traditions with human experiences through thoughtful analysis, aiming to stimulate and enrich discussions about pressing issues in today's world. Our goal is to communicate effectively using reasoning that resonates across religious and secular settings, particularly by advocating for truth against power structures and standing with oppressed, marginalized, or disenfranchised groups worldwide.
The Theology program offers students a comprehensive overview of key aspects in religious studies, incorporating Theological, Pastoral, and Religious Studies approaches. Simultaneously, it allows students to explore subjects aligned with their personal interests. Each student completes a research project with faculty mentorship. Core and upper-level Theology courses explore both historical and modern perspectives, covering areas such as: Sacred texts, the evolution of Christian thought, ecclesiology, sacramental theology, worship traditions, non-Christian religious histories and practices, interfaith dialogue, and other relevant contemporary subjects.
