Possessing advanced expertise to teach individuals with diverse learning needs is increasingly crucial. This Ph.D. program equips graduates for academic roles in higher education and administrative positions in school systems, where they'll prepare educators in evidence-based Special Education methods. The 60-credit curriculum involves close collaboration with pioneering faculty mentors, developing skills in conducting and assessing cutting-edge research. Participants acquire advanced competencies for university instruction, securing grants, managing programs, and scholarly publishing. Lehigh's distinguished Special Education faculty specialize in autism spectrum disorders, learning disability interventions, ADHD, emotional/behavioral challenges, and behavioral analysis. Graduates pursue careers as university professors, district-level training specialists, and other key educational roles. Flexible scheduling includes full-time and part-time enrollment with evening course offerings. Designed for master's degree holders in Special Education or related disciplines, the program provides full-time doctoral candidates with 20-hour weekly research assistantships including stipends and tuition support. Students often co-instruct courses alongside faculty during their second year. Degree requirements include a qualifying research project, comprehensive examinations, and culminating dissertation work.
