Numerous young individuals face substantial health challenges that negatively impact their academic achievements and social interactions, potentially leading to more severe consequences. Public and private sector leaders have advocated for health promotion initiatives that minimize reliance on costly medical treatments. A growing agreement suggests that implementing comprehensive school health programs in full-service educational institutions offers an economical approach to tackling youth health and social issues while preventing the development of unhealthy behaviors. In response to this demand, the doctoral school psychology program has introduced a Health/Pediatric subspecialty, allowing students to acquire specialized skills beyond the standard curriculum. This concentration focuses on training school psychologists to become pioneers in researching and addressing the educational requirements of children with health issues. Central to this pediatric school psychology training are skills for connecting key systems - including families, schools, medical professionals, and communities - to support children's academic success. The program strives to produce well-rounded professionals qualified to work across both educational and healthcare environments, delivering coordinated services for students.
