The economics department provides three undergraduate degree options: a Bachelor of Arts in economics and a Bachelor of Science in economics through the College of Arts and Sciences, along with a Bachelor of Science in business and economics with an economics major offered by the College of Business and Economics. At the graduate level, we feature a Master of Science in applied economics and a Doctorate in business and economics. Our faculty members have published research in prestigious journals such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, and numerous other leading publications. They also author textbooks and scholarly books in their specialized fields while holding editorial positions at economic journals.
Students in the College of Business and Economics must fulfill the Core Curriculum requirements, which encompass ECO 1 (Principles of Economics), ECO 45 (Statistical Methods), and either ECO 119 (Intermediate Macroeconomic Analysis) or ECO 146 (Intermediate Microeconomic Analysis), in addition to their major-specific coursework. Economics majors are required to complete both ECO119 and ECO146, plus ECO157 and a minimum of 12 elective economics credits, totaling 18 credits beyond the core. This program equips students with fundamental economic analysis skills and, combined with the CBE core curriculum, prepares them for professional opportunities in various sectors including business, consulting, non-profits, and government.
