Western Michigan University's family and consumer sciences education program equips you to teach middle or high school curricula in this field. There's a nationwide shortage of qualified family and consumer sciences educators. WMU's program holds accreditation from both the State Board of Education and North Central Accreditation for Teacher Education.
As a WMU student in this program, you'll undertake a semester-long teaching internship guided by experienced educators at university-approved schools. This immersive experience prepares you not just for classroom instruction, but for reflective professional practice. Throughout the semester, you'll receive coordinated support from both school mentors and WMU faculty members.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
