The Composition, Rhetoric, and Literature Program invites you to investigate diverse topics, methods, and frameworks that shape language studies across social, cultural, academic, workplace, and literary settings. Fundamentally, composition and rhetoric examines how language interacts with power and influences both individual experiences and systemic structures. At Kansas State, our Composition & Rhetoric program embraces cross-disciplinary perspectives and empowers graduate students to drive meaningful transformation. This curriculum offers comprehensive training in rhetorical and compositional theory, professional writing, and literary studies, while allowing students to tailor their focus toward technical communication, rhetorical analysis, or pedagogy.

Qualification Requirements

Statement of objectives. A 2-3 page account of your academic aims and interests.
Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework.
Writing sample of 8-15 pages of analytical or persuasive prose.
Copy of official transcript from each college or university you have attended.
Three letters of recommendation
To be considered for admission, applicants who are submitting a TOEFL score must have a minimum of 92 on the iBT (internet-based TOEFL). Applicants with a score of 7.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam may also be considered for admission.
