The Environmental Design & Planning Ph.D. program at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning & Design offers an interdisciplinary academic experience. Doctoral candidates engage with the entire College community rather than being confined to a single department, enabling them to leverage expertise from all three departments: Architecture, Interior Architecture & Product Design, and Landscape Architecture/Regional & Community Planning. Students select a specialization while also gaining exposure to multiple disciplines. The program's four focus areas—Design, Planning, Sustainability, and Place Making—reflect the broad, interconnected realities of design and planning fields. Professionals in these areas gain valuable insights by exploring various perspectives on shaping and enhancing our built environments. By drawing on the College's diverse yet complementary disciplines, we provide Ph.D. students with a holistic educational foundation. This advanced graduate program fosters research through an integrated approach to design and planning, ultimately working toward creating more habitable and environmentally responsible communities.
