Language is all around us, serving as a fundamental aspect of human existence. Those who study linguistics develop an understanding of how the mind processes language, acquire abilities to recognize patterns in natural speech, examine connections between language and culture, and investigate language's role in education. These competencies prove valuable for individuals pursuing fields like education, anthropology, communication sciences, psychology, computer science, neurology, philosophy, and sociology.
Graduates with linguistics training excel in diverse careers including speech therapy, market research, ESL teaching, linguistic technology development, and data analysis. Explore how language mirrors our distinctly human experience. The certificate program mandates 15 credit hours at the 200 level or above, completed with a C grade or better and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Pass/fail options are not permitted. Students must complete one course from each of four core areas: Linguistic Foundations, Language History, Sociolinguistics, and Language Analysis.
