Peabody offers specialized mentorship and intensive training for aspiring composers in a welcoming, collaborative setting. We believe musicians thrive when given the freedom to explore and develop their distinct artistic identities without being constrained by stylistic expectations. Our program emphasizes hands-on experience, providing students with numerous chances to hear their works performed. This includes six department recitals each year, regular orchestral readings with Peabody's premier symphony orchestra, and annual sessions with wind ensembles and choirs. Students also benefit from unique performance collaborations with Peabody's renowned instrumental departments. Furthermore, our distinguished chamber music program commissions select composition students to create pieces performed by established ensembles, many of whose members pursue successful professional careers.
Students should have a bachelor degree.
