The Department of Civil and Systems Engineering provides an undergraduate program designed to cultivate future leaders in the field by equipping them with core knowledge of mathematical and physical principles essential to civil engineering science, fostering an understanding of innovative engineering design challenges, and instilling a commitment to professional service. Civil Engineering encompasses numerous specialized areas, and the curriculum introduces students to structural engineering, engineering mechanics, systems engineering, and geotechnical engineering.
The Department of Civil and Systems Engineering presents two pathways for obtaining a combined bachelor's and master's degree.
One pathway integrates a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) in either Civil Engineering or Systems Engineering. Admitted students typically finish both degrees within five years. Those enrolled in the combined Bachelor's/Master's program or pursuing a master's after completing their B.S. in Civil Engineering at Hopkins may apply one advanced course (400-level or above) toward both degrees, subject to approval from the master's faculty advisor.
