The department's faculty consists of tenured professors, tenure-track members, joint faculty, and adjunct instructors. They deliver microbiology and infectious disease education within the veterinary curriculum while also teaching courses for the department's graduate studies. Faculty from other university departments and federal research institutions also contribute to the Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM) graduate programs (Table 1). Another key advantage of VMPM is its strong record of securing research funding per tenure-track faculty member.
VMPM has established collaborative research initiatives with various university departments such as Zoology and Genetics, Animal Science, and three USDA research centers (the National Animal Disease Center, National Veterinary Services Laboratories, and National Soil Tilth Laboratory). Certain graduate students pursue their research projects at these USDA facilities.
